Maneki is a focus and meditation app. It has no ads, no tracking, and no analytics SDKs. We collect what the app needs to work (your account, your sessions, and what you choose to write or share) and nothing else. We never sell your data.
Who we are
Maneki is made by Ahmet Servet Polat, an independent developer in Türkiye, who is the data controller for the app. Contact: [email protected].
What we collect and why
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Account: email address, the name Apple or Google shares when you sign in (if any), and an account ID. | To sign you in and keep your progress on your account. With Sign in with Apple you can hide your email; Apple then gives us a private relay address. |
| Profile: display name, chosen cat, theme, daily goal, time zone, friend code. | To run the app and show you to friends and rooms. Your time zone decides when your day starts for streaks. |
| Practice: focus, breathing, and meditation sessions (type, length, start and end time, outcome, tag), streaks, statistics, koban balance, garden, collection, achievements, and daily fortunes. | To track your progress and give rewards. Rewards are calculated on our server so they can't be lost or counted twice. |
| What you write: session notes, moods (1 to 5), and journal entries. | To keep your reflections across devices. They are private: friends and rooms never see them. |
| Social: friends, friend requests, blocks, rooms you create or join, room notes, and online status in a room. | To run friends and shared rooms. See “What other people see” below. |
| Reports: who reported what, the reason, optional details, and a copy of the reported name, room name, or note. | To keep the community safe and review reports. |
| Purchases: Apple transaction IDs, product, purchase and expiry dates, refund status, and a random purchase token that links App Store purchases to your account. | To give you Maneki Plus and koban. Apple processes the payment; we never see your card or Apple Account details. |
| Crash and performance reports from Apple's MetricKit: app version, iOS version, device model, and technical details of the crash or hang. | To fix bugs. They are not linked to your account and are deleted after 90 days. |
Our service providers also see technical data needed to deliver the service, such as your IP address and device type when the app connects.
What stays on your iPhone
- Apple Health: if you turn it on, Maneki saves breathing and meditation sessions to Health as Mindful Minutes. Maneki only writes to Health and never reads from it. Health data is not sent to us and is never used for advertising.
- Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone; there are no push notifications from a server.
- Widgets and Live Activities use a small summary stored on your iPhone. It is cleared when you sign out.
- Unsent notes written offline are kept in a protected file on your iPhone until they sync.
What other people see
- Friends (only after you both agree) see your display name, favorite cat, level, streak, completed sessions, and this week's focus time.
- People in a room see your display name, cat, whether you're online, your timer status in the room, and the notes you write there.
- Nobody else sees your journal, moods, session notes, history, purchases, or email.
Who processes your data
- Clerk (United States): sign-in and account management.
- Convex (United States): our database and server.
- Apple: App Store payments, Sign in with Apple, and crash reports.
- Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google.
Your data is stored in the United States. These providers process it only to run Maneki, under their own security and data protection terms.
If you ask Apple for a refund of a koban pack and have turned on “Share purchase use with Apple” in Settings, Maneki tells Apple whether the koban were delivered and what share of them was used, and nothing else.
How long we keep it
- Your account data is kept while you have an account.
- Rooms nobody opens for 30 days are deleted.
- Crash reports are deleted after 90 days.
- When you delete your account, everything linked to it is deleted (see below).
Your choices and rights
- Export: Settings > Your data > Export your data gives you a file with your profile, sessions, notes, moods, and journal.
- Correct: change your name, goal, and other details in the app, or write to us.
- Delete: Settings > Delete account removes your account, sessions, journal, moods, notes, friends, room memberships, reports you sent or received, and purchase records from our server, and deletes your sign-in account. Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so cancel them in iOS Settings as well.
- Sign in with Apple: after deleting your account you can also remove Maneki in iOS Settings > your name > Sign-In & Security > Sign in with Apple.
- Health: turn off saving to Health in Maneki's Settings or in the Health app.
Depending on where you live (for example under Türkiye's KVKK), you may also have the right to know whether we process your data, to get a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, to object, and to complain to a data protection authority (in Türkiye, the Personal Data Protection Authority, KVKK). Write to [email protected]; we answer within 30 days.
Security
All connections use HTTPS. Rewards, purchases, and access to rooms are checked on our server. Only you can read your journal and moods. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we collect to the minimum the app needs.
Children
Maneki is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date. For important changes we will also tell you in the app.
